COMANCHE, Texas – This Thanksgiving season, the First Methodist Church of Comanche combined organization, compassion, and faith to meet a growing need in the community. Through its annual Thanksgiving outreach, the church delivered blessing boxes filled with complete Thanksgiving meal supplies to 102 families, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.

The effort was led by Vicky Tarver, who coordinated the project with the help of 30 to 35 dedicated volunteers. Over several days, volunteers gathered ingredients, packed boxes, and made deliveries throughout Comanche. Each blessing box was designed to feed households ranging from four to twenty family members, ensuring families of all sizes could share a meaningful Thanksgiving meal.

Families were selected through nominations from local schools, Comanche Pathways, and other charitable organizations, helping the church reach neighbors who might otherwise go unnoticed. By the end of the outreach, the church estimated that more than 500 individuals were provided with a Thanksgiving meal.

Tarver, a local realtor of Armstrong Real Estate, has spearheaded the program since its inception eight years ago. Reflecting on the community’s response, she said, “It is such a blessing how our church has supported this gift to the community.” She also noted the continued need within Comanche, adding, “We estimate this fed over 500 people, and the sad part is there are so many more in the community—we just couldn’t get to them all.”

The delivery process also brought new awareness to additional needs beyond Thanksgiving. In one case, volunteers encountered a large single-parent family facing significant challenges. In response, Armstrong Real Estate, under Tarver’s guidance, stepped forward to provide extra support for Christmas, including a holiday meal and additional assistance.

This effort will work alongside Santa’s Helpers, a long-standing community program which provides Christmas gifts to families in need each year. Donations came from local businesses, PJ’s Market, Brookshires, Walmart, H-E-B and Sam’s Club.

Through careful planning and heartfelt service, Vicky Tarver’s vision, the First Methodist Church of Comanche and Armstrong Real Estate not only addressed immediate food needs but also strengthened the bonds of care that connect the community—demonstrating that compassion, when organized and shared, can reach far beyond a single holiday.
