New initiative focuses on real-time visibility and better inventory practices to improve bed availability and patient flow.

RICHARDSON, Texas – In response to growing concerns about bed shortages and care delays, Emeritus has introduced a new suite of smart storage and inventory optimisation services designed to help hospitals improve bed availability without purchasing more equipment.

While many facilities invest in additional beds to meet patient demand, research shows the issue often lies not in quantity, but in visibility. Beds are commonly misplaced, stored off-site, or caught in maintenance cycles without real-time tracking, creating artificial shortages that impact admissions and throughput.

“Most hospitals already have the beds they need,” said a spokesperson for Emeritus. “They just don’t know where they are or how to get them ready in time.”

Emeritus addresses this problem through:

  • PAR level tracking to ensure each unit maintains appropriate inventory
  • Bed tagging systems to monitor location and condition
  • Optimised storage layouts to support rapid access and infection control compliance

These services allow hospitals to reclaim control over bed inventory, reduce delays, and avoid unnecessary purchases. More importantly, they support faster patient movement from the ER to inpatient units and procedural areas.

The smart storage program is part of Emeritus’ broader mission to streamline hospital operations and improve the use of capital assets. With tailored support and detailed reporting, hospitals gain the tools to make data-driven decisions about equipment use and storage planning.

“In today’s environment, hospitals can’t afford to let critical equipment sit idle,” the spokesperson added. “We help them turn underutilised storage into a strategic asset.”
