As late autumn sets in, the Salt Well River Canyon in the Micangshan Grand Canyon, Wangcang County, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province, is ablaze with autumn colors. Tens of thousands of mu of pristine forest have entered their peak viewing season, transforming the mountainsides into a breathtaking tapestry of red, yellow and green.

Stretching across the mountains of the Micang Range, the vibrant foliage creates a spectacular natural display. Meanwhile, vast seas of clouds surge through the valleys, with mist drifting among the colorful forests and mountain peaks appearing and disappearing in the haze. Together, these elements create a dreamlike landscape of extraordinary beauty.

The Salt Well River Canyon is home to extensive areas of pristine colorful woodland. Located in a transitional climatic zone between northern and southern China, the region boasts rich vegetation and remarkable diversity, giving its autumn landscape an especially vivid palette. From elevated vantage points, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of cloud banks rolling over layers of forest-covered mountains, with stunning scenery unfolding at every turn.

Situated along the border between Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces, the Micang Range forms an important part of the Qinling-Daba mountain system, a key geographical transition zone between northern and southern China. The convergence of different biogeographical regions has made this area one of China's richest regions in terms of biodiversity.

Wangcang's autumn foliage features hundreds of tree species, including beech and maple. The colorful forests are mainly concentrated in the mountainous areas north of the county seat, with particularly spectacular displays at Gucheng Mountain–Qilixia National 4A Tourist Attraction, the Salt Well River Canyon and Mengzi Gorge.
Beyond its natural beauty, Wangcang also boasts a rich revolutionary heritage. As a former administrative center of the Sichuan-Shaanxi Revolutionary Base Area during its later period, the county preserves a number of important historical sites, including the Chinese Red Army City and the former site of the Mumen Military Conference.
This unique combination of revolutionary heritage and ecological resources gives Wangcang its distinctive appeal, bringing together its vibrant "red" cultural legacy and lush "green" natural landscapes.
In recent years, Wangcang County has stepped up efforts to develop its cultural tourism industry, creating distinctive tourism products and turning its ecological assets into a driver of local economic growth. The Wangcang Red Leaves Festival and a series of autumn-themed events have been successfully held for more than a decade, becoming an important platform for promoting the county to visitors across China and around the world.
