MINNEAPOLIS – Nor-Tech, a leading systems integrator of high-performance computing solutions, just announced that North Wind Test LLC has selected the company to design and build their next-generation HPC cluster—an advanced, fully customized system that will deliver an 8X increase in computational performance. The decision follows nearly a decade of successful collaboration between the two organizations.

North Wind, a Minnesota-based aerospace and defense engineering firm, specializes in applied R&D, ground test facilities and flight test systems—supporting some of the most sophisticated aerodynamic modeling and propulsion research in the industry.

After evaluating multiple competitors and cloud computing options, North Wind determined that an on-premises HPC solution would deliver the best long-term performance, cost-efficiency, and control.

The new HPC cluster—scheduled for delivery next month—was architected specifically for North Wind’s advanced CFD and high-fidelity simulation workloads.

Nor-Tech Executive Vice President Jeff Olson said, “North Wind’s decision to work with us again says a lot about the trust we’ve built and the value we’ve delivered. Their engineering team knows exactly what they need from an HPC system, and we take pride in delivering a solution that empowers their mission-critical research.”

He added, “Our goal is always to build systems that perform flawlessly, backed by support that our clients can rely on. We’re honored that North Wind continues to choose Nor-Tech for their most important computing initiatives.”

Ultimately, North Wind’s new cluster will dramatically enhance its ability to run large, complex aerodynamic simulations, accelerating design cycles and enabling more advanced modeling than previously possible.

Nor-Tech is on CRN’s list of the top 40 Data Centre Infrastructure Providers along with IBM, Oracle, Dell and Supermicro. The company is a complete high-performance computer solution provider for two Nobel Physics Award-contending/winning projects. Nor-Tech engineers average 20+ years of experience. All of Nor-Tech’s high-performance technology is developed in Minnesota and supported worldwide. The company is headquartered in Burnsville, Minn., just outside of Minneapolis. Contracts include: Minnesota State IT, University of Wisconsin System, and NASA SEWP V.
