PRINCETON, N.J. – The Apereo Foundation is pleased to announce that OpenCampus GmbH, headquartered in Munich, Germany, has joined the Foundation as a Commercial Member.

OpenCampus puts educational institutions back in control of their technology by enabling them to design, manage, and automate every digital workflow across campus within a single no-code platform – on their own terms, without reliance on external vendors. Built on Drupal and equipped with a drag and drop workflow modeler that integrates leading AI models directly into processes, OpenCampus gives institutions the freedom to shape solutions to their unique needs and share them with peers.

More than just software, OpenCampus is a community-driven approach to modern campus management that helps institutions evolve without vendor lock-in, cut administrative effort, and deliver better services for students and staff alike.

Already supporting over one million users worldwide, OpenCampus powers the core operations of leading universities, research institutions, and government organizations across Europe, including Technical University of Munich (TUM), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), King’s College London (KCL), and the Max Planck Society.

With a strong commitment to open standards and collaborative innovation, OpenCampus’ membership reinforces Apereo’s mission to help higher education institutions deliver and sustain open source software solutions that support learning, teaching, and research.

Patrick Masson, Executive Director of the Apereo Foundation, said:

“OpenCampus’ decision to join the Apereo Foundation underscores the value of global collaboration in higher education technology. Their expertise in campus management software, combined with their commitment to open source and open standards, makes them an ideal partner as we work to strengthen Apereo’s reach and engagement across Europe. Critical to the success of the open source movement is active and authentic participation from the business sector. OpenCampus highlights that companies can profit from open source while benefiting communities. We’re excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring to our projects, our members, and the wider open source in education community.”

Kirsten Heiss, CEO of OpenCampus, added:

“We are delighted to join the Apereo Foundation and contribute to a community that shares our vision of open, collaborative solutions for higher education. OpenCampus has always believed that open source innovation thrives when organizations work together, and Apereo’s network provides an ideal platform for that collaboration. We look forward to engaging with Apereo’s diverse global community and supporting its projects.”

The announcement comes as Apereo continues to focus on expanding its membership in Europe, building on recent collaborations with European partners and its active presence and leadership at events such as OW2con in France earlier this year.
