ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Welcome Anchorage Tours is pleased to announce the addition of Amie Haakenson as Alaska Tour Specialist, bringing more than three decades of experience in Alaska’s travel, tourism, and event industries to the locally owned tour company.

A longtime Alaskan who has called the state home since 1983, Haakenson’s career in travel began in 1990 and spans work with some of Alaska’s most respected organizations, including Kenai Coastal Tours, Eagle Custom Tours, Alaska Booking & Reservation Center, and MarkAir. A graduate of the Travel Academy, she is widely recognized for her deep operational knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to craft seamless, meaningful travel experiences.

In addition to her tourism background, Haakenson spent more than 20 years as the owner and lead consultant of Your Event Planner, where she specialized in complex logistics, guest experience design, and end-to-end coordination. Her work supporting Alaska Native health and wellness programs took her to communities across the state, giving her an authentic understanding of Alaska’s geography, culture, and people — insight that directly informs her approach to trip planning today.

“Amie brings an extraordinary depth of experience and a genuine love for Alaska that aligns perfectly with our mission,” said Welcome Anchorage Tours owner, James Bowers. “Her ability to connect logistics, storytelling, and personalized service elevates the experience we offer our guests.”

Beyond her professional career, Haakenson is deeply engaged in Alaska’s leadership and community development circles. She currently serves as Director of the US Miss Alaska team, is a Distinguished Toastmaster, podcast host, and workshop facilitator focused on communication, mentorship, and first impressions. She is also the founder of AK Rhinestone and the Princess Pages project.

At Welcome Anchorage Tours, Haakenson will work closely with guests to provide locally provided tour experiences that coordinate transportation and experiences, and ensure each visit reflects Anchorage and Alaska at its best — from iconic highlights to curated private experiences.
